Artist’s Statement

I grew up in the Midwest, headed to the Pacific Northwest after college and then landed in New Hampshire where I have lived since 2003. I have loved jewelry–especially silver jewelry–for as long as I can remember. In the 80s and early 90s, I wore armloads of silver bracelets.

I created beaded jewelry for years, but my entire perspective changed in 2005 when I picked up a torch for the first time. I met a local artist that encouraged me to take her class, which was well beyond my skill level. When it came time to light my torch, I looked around at all the other students, who seemed to know what they were doing–and I decided to go for it. The rest is history.

I find now that it is absolutely the most satisfying experience taking raw materials such as wire, sheet metal, stones and be able to  create something lasting and beautiful–something that speaks to someone enough that they want to wear it on their body.

My work tends to be industrial in style using geometric shapes. I take inspiration from architecture and structures such as I-beams, train tracks, bridges and girders (which, as the mother of a young boy I’ve spent many hours looking at).
